An event by the Community for the Community created in 2015
In the context of the historic cultural and economic ties between Australia and France and the common values shared by our two countries, the Bastille Day French Festival [BDFF] was the first festival of its kind in Melbourne to celebrate the French National Day.
In partnership with French-Australian associations, the Bastille Day French Festival offers a program of free, accessible and family oriented activities that allow the broader community to experience French language and culture.
In 2015 the festival was held in and around the historic surrounds of the State Library Victoria, truly uniting French and Australian history and culture, especially as both our communities celebrated the centenary of the First World War.
In the last 10 years, the festival has been held in various iconic locations of Melbourne, the State Library Victoria (2015- 2016), the Meat Market (2017-2018), Federation Square (2019), online in 2020-2021, and, since 2022 at the Queen Victoria Market.
